Right now the eCommerce market has some “heat” again, which is kind of nice. 14 years ago, eCommerce was the next BIG THING, and ironically unlike most of the other next big thing’s that came along during the dawn of the Internet Era, this one actually lived up to much of its hype.
It’s hard to imagine many things on the Internet that have altered our daily behavior and changed the landscape for business owners much more than the ability to shop online, yet much like other structural game changers in the past, it quickly became something we all take for granted.
That “heat” tends to be coming from two distinct areas, which are certainly important and long term they’re going to make huge differences to the online operations of your business. Today they tend to have a fairly niche appeal. Those two areas are Social Commerce and M-Commerce or Mobile Commerce.
Let’s start by looking at the reasons why those areas of online commerce deserve the attention they’re getting:
As always, we strive to keep our clients and readers up to date on the latest changes and updates in the integration industry. As such, we would like to pass on this notice that will affect businesses trading with Hannaford and/or Food Lion. The notice we received read as follows:
Food Lion LLC and Hannaford Brothers Co. are consolidating supply chain systems which will require changes in the EDI Purchase Order (850/875), Invoice (810/880), Product Activity (852), and Purchase Order Replenishment (855) documents. These changes will become effective on 9/1/2010.
At this time we do not have specification details of these changes ready to distribute; however, you will be notified once final decisions are made. We anticipate the changes to be minor and simple to implement.
As always, the development team here at eBridge has had their nose to the grindstone this week. Below are the new and updated integration connections that were deployed to the ePortal during the week of June 7, 2010:

One of the most common reasons we receive calls in Support is Data Lookups (aka translation tables). Incorrect or missing Data Lookups can prevent orders from posting to your Accounting Application or cause outbound documents, such as invoices or ASNs to be rejected. Here is a brief overview of eBridge Data Lookups and what to do if you encounter problems.
What are Data Lookups?
eBridge Data Lookups match up the codes sent by your Trading Partner to the codes in your Accounting Application. Typically, your Accounting Application does not store information the same way as your Trading Partners do. For example, you may sell an “ItemABC” to your Trading Partner, but your Trading Partner may refer to the same item as “Item123”. eBridge Data lookups allow you to match up these items codes, so your orders can post to your Accounting Application with your item code and your outbound documents, such as invoices, can be sent back to your Trading Partner with their item code . There are 3 types of Data Lookup: Partner, Ship Address and Items. Anytime a new Partner, Ship Address or Item is added, you will need to remember to update your Data Lookups, or you may encounter problems.
