How do you move your CRM data to your accounting package/ERP?

By Dave Malda

With the continued growth and use of CRM tools (Salesforce.com, SugarCRM, Microsoft Dynamics CRM to name a few) in the marketplace - Sales teams are more than ever embracing and leveraging this technology.  The main purpose of a CRM solution is to track prospects, properly manage opportunities and funnel size etc.  Having the CRM online is a bonus - reps from different territories can login from anywhere to manage and view critical business data.

However, this also creates a potential problem.  The CRM solution used by the sales team is disconnected and separate from the companies accounting package or ERP.  Take this example for instance.

- A sales rep wins a new account

- this account needs to be entered into your accounting package as a new company

- the details of the opportunity including services to be deployed, software sold also need to be entered

Each and every detail must make its way across - very time consuming and error prone.

This leads to a question: If you are using a CRM, how are you currently moving data back and forth from CRM to your accounting package or ERP?  Manual re-keying, file import export?

I'd love to hear your feedback.

Dave Malda.
