News for Amazon Sellers: Groceries, Office Supplies and Shopify

Friday, August 31, 2018Lindsay Hampson 3 tips of interest for those selling, thinking of selling, or helping others sell on the world’s biggest marketplace; Amazon.

Amazon really wants your groceries or gourmet items
Selling on Amazon easier with automation

Amazon has just extended a promotion that gives third-party sellers a break on fees for certain grocery items. Usually, Amazon charges a 15% referral fee on sales of grocery and gourmet.

Through December 31, 2019, referral fees for Grocery & Gourmet products with a total sales price of $15.00 or less will be charged a referral fee of 8% instead of 15%. Referral fees for Grocery & Gourmet products with a total sales price above $15.00 will remain at 15%.

New “Pay by invoice” policy allows Amazon’s business customers to buy, but not pay immediately
Selling in bulk easier on Amazon

If you are a business, buying your office supplies on Amazon is likely easier and more affordable.  And, to sweeten the deal even more, Amazon has just announced the ability to “Pay by invoice.” The invoice would be due net 30 days.

While the reasons behind this make logical sense, some sellers are sceptical. Sellers are use to getting paid weekly or bi-weekly for the orders that they receive. This could put them into a cash crunch.

The eternal optimist in me says that we should sit back and watch how this performs over the next few months, rather than panicking. Catering to big businesses could increase the revenue – and be worth the bother in the short term.

Start selling on Amazon with Shopify

While this is not brand new, it is worth sharing again.  If you sell on Shopify, you can enable basic and clean functionality to show your products on Amazon as well.

Your product text and images are ‘synced,’ both channels share one inventory repository, and – the real game changer - you get your products in front of new customers.
